We Signed the MoU: Drone Club Joins Estonia's Defence Network

The Memorandum of Understanding is signed. Estonia's defence institutions have formally agreed to let TalTech students learn to build defence solutions by doing — and we are the students doing the building. 🇪🇪 🪖 🇺🇦

Why it matters

Defence is growing faster than the people who can build for it. EDIA went from about 100 members in 2021 to more than 200 in 2026, and exports from €46M in 2020 toward a €1.4B target by 2030.

What is missing is hands. That is the gap we are built for.

What changes for us

The MoU puts Drone Club inside a trusted network of defence partners. That means real operational requirements instead of invented ones, testing environments we could not book on our own, and mentoring from people who do this professionally.

We want Drone Club to become what Solaride, FS Team Tallinn and the Estonian Student Satellite already are — a place where real engineering skill forms during your studies, not years after them.

How we got here

The idea started at TalTech SPIN in February. By April the stakeholder group had formed and Drone Club had taken on the build work. In May we flew. In September it was signed.

Who signed

  • Kaitsevägi | Estonian Defence Forces
  • Politsei- ja Piirivalveamet
  • Sisekaitseakadeemia
  • Milrem Robotics
  • TalTech
  • TalTech Drone Club

What we are building

Air and ground platforms carrying an ISR layer that can target and act:

  • 3–4 hours of flying and driving capacity
  • 100 km range
  • 25 kg payload

First prototypes are already flying.

Thank you

Thank you to Anastasiia Shevchenko and Anastasiia Dudko, who initiated this process and kept it alive all the way to signature, and to Ingrid Pappel for backing it from the start. 💪
